MAINTENANCE & ROUTINE
To keep your diesel semi-truck on the road on a consistent and reliable basis, you need to secure a mechanic who knows your truck. Fuel injectors, fluids, and brake systems require constant monitoring to ensure your Volvo, CAT, Cummins or Detroit diesel engine works at top performance and safety. At In-N-Out, our Diesel Master Technicians take care of your rig and your fleet maintenance and can spot potential engine, brake, transmission, or other critical component before it becomes and emergency. Maintenance components include:
Engine - oil, filter, fuel lines, tank cap, filters, spark plugs, distributor, cooling system, hoses, belts & tens, water pump and fan, exhaust system, and oil leaks
Under the Hood Fluid – Radiator (note coolant strength), brake fluid, steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, automatic transmission fluid, rear-end differential fluid, and AC (air conditioner) Freon level
Cassis – steering play, power steering hose, steering pitman arm, drag link, and idler arm, tie rods, front springs and shocks, ball joints, rear springs and shocks, bell housing bolts, transmission mounts, U-joints, carrier bearings, slip joint, wheels and axel seals
Brakes – check for fluid leaks, front pads and rotors, rear brakes and adjustment, parking brake operation
Drivability Checks – window glass and operation, emergency exits, mirrors, wipers, washer fluid sprays, heater and AC fans and defrost, accelerator and linkage, lube all hinges latches and locks, passenger doors, fuel tank and mounting, tire condition and match, tire rims and lug nuts, tire inflation, mud flaps
Safety and Emergency – fire extinguisher, first aid kit, flashlight, reflective triangles, ice scarper, blanket, toolkit
Wrap Up – check for leaks, check oil level, wash engine and chassis if needed, keep track of when the next Preventative Maintenance is due, and note any repairs needed
REUILDS & OVERHAULS
Many truckers lean towards rebuilding or overhauling their big rigs instead of purchasing a new truck, especially if the engine is pre-emission. Rebuilds and overhauls help the owner operator stay within budget when it comes to the business bottom line. Here are the pros of restoring a big rig:
Easier to Repair – Older trucks are less sophisticated with fewer computerized components. Repairs are easier to find and complete
Predictability – Fuel mileage and engine life, which relate directly to operating costs, are more predictable.
Reliability – Older equipment has a good track record for longevity and repair rate. The latest and greatest gadgets on new rigs lack track record.
Cost of a New Truck – Payments on a $165K+ truck are ridiculously high.
Lower Financing Expenses – It costs less to get a small loan for an engine overhaul than to finance a new truck.
